Interview: aesthetic surgery experience
Mother to 8 children, Veroonika had become a woman whose self-esteem had become wholly dependent on the opinion of the male figures in her life. After a series of aesthetic surgery procedures, she has, however, once again been able to work on herself to re-discover herself and learnt to prioritise herself and her children.
Veroonika, how did you end up on the programme?
My first reaction when I got the call from TV3 was that this must be some kind of joke. It’s actually my daughter who is to ‘blame’ for secretly sending in my application. She told me later it was because she’d never seen me smile and knew how embarrassed I was of my breasts. The first time I heard about the whole thing was when I got the call to tell me I’d been selected.
Giving birth to 8 children had left its marks on your body. In what way did aesthetic surgery help with that?
My body had changed dramatically after 8 kids – my breasts were very saggy with significant excess and unfilled skin; my abdominal muscles had parted permanently and the skin on the abdomen covered with stretch-marks. I was no longer feeling like a young woman but, rather, as a wrinkled old lady. To my great surprise though, the specialists were able to address quite a few of these issues simultaneously. The excess fat from my thighs was re-injected into my breasts. I now have beautiful, firm and completely breasts. Thanks to the abdominoplasty, I no longer have the excess skin on my belly, the muscles there have been brought back together and my umbilical hernia has been removed. So I am extremely happy with the results!
Your face was quite swollen after the surgical procedures on your face. Did the recovery take long thereafter?
The recovery was actually very speedy. I was able to do lighter chores around the house the next day already.
Can you tell a bit more about the kinds of procedures you had and were all of these really necessary?
I genuinely believe all of them were necessary indeed – liposuction, breast corrective surgery, abdominoplasty, eyelid and forehead lift. I feel like my eyelids used to droop like a bulldog’s underneath a heavy forehead which had also dropped, whereas now everything is tighter, I look younger and healthier and feel better. Additionally, I also had a big scar from an old accident under my chin corrected which has added to my confidence.
How have your children reacted to the change?
My youngest son didn’t even recognise me on the night of the big reveal. He was keeping away as if from a stranger even whilst driving home that night but waking up the next morning was the first time he’s ever said ‘mummy, you’re so pretty’. Now he says that to me every morning and kisses me on the cheek before getting out of his bed whilst my oldest daughter keeps using the word ‘hot’ when referring to my new look.
How would you briefly characterise your general experience with aesthetic surgery all in all?
I’m so pleased to have gone through this journey and to have re-discovered the old me thanks to it. At first I was quite apprehensive about the procedures, anxious about the general aesthetic and so on but the environment and people at the clinic made me feel great. I’ve never had the chance to truly be taken care of in such a way before either. They did a great job both with the medical procedures as well as with patient communication and care and I’d recommend going for a consultation at Christinas Clinic to anyone even remotely thinking or wondering about aesthetic surgery. A great collaboration and a great clinic!
